Since 2003, there have been six fatalities and over 1000 other injuries stemming from collisions between bicycles and automobiles in Austin.  Now, some city leaders are trying to lower those numbers.  After working for over a year, a city-commissioned task force  recently issued its report on how to make Austin more bicycle friendly.   Their recommendations include more (and improved) bike trails and routes, safety education, and other actions designed to encourage ridership.

It's unclear how many, if any, of the task-force's recommendations will make their way to policy, but at least it's a start in making this a more cycling-friendly town.
