Elevator injury at Texas Stadium

A man was seriously injured Monday morning after he fell down an elevator shaft at Texas Stadium, authorities said. The unidentified man and another co-worker were about to load the elevator with ice when the man fell more than 30 feet into the elevator shaft near Gate 6 at the stadium, said David Tull, an Irving police spokesman.
The victim, who may have suffered several broken bones and a head injury, was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas after firefighters rescued him, authorities said. His condition was unavailable. The accident occurred shortly after 9 a.m. at Texas Stadium, 2401 E. Airport Freeway. No other injuries were reported.

Thousands of workers are injured every year in similar accidents. To avoid or minimize such incidents, many employers have instituted extensive training programs and actually have safety incentives.
